Why play basketball?

Basketball is a welcoming, inclusive sport that is suitable for players, coaches and officials of all ages, genders and abilities. As a team sport, basketball helps encourage younger players to develop teamwork and leadership skills as well as improving their confidence and self-esteem.

Basketball NT and its Association partners deliver a wide range of programs for people of all ages and abilities to be involved in the game of Basketball.

The introductory program to teach basic concepts of sport to 2-5 year olds. Heaps of fun, and you can get involved too!

Aussie Hoops introduces children to basketball in a structured and accredited environment that connects our game at the grassroots through to the elite level. Our national coaching curriculum and sequentially developed program consist of warm-up games, skill activities, and modified games all delivered by accredited coaches.

Walking basketball is a fun, low-impact, and social modification of traditional basketball that completely removes running, jumping, and physical contact. It is designed for all ages, genders, and skill levels, making it ideal for older adults, beginners, or those recovering from injuries.

The Alice Springs Basketball Association (ASBA) is the home of organised basketball in Alice Springs, based on Traeger Avenue in The Gap, where its stadium has three air-conditioned courts running weekly competition. As a Basketball NT partner association, it caters to the people of Alice Springs and surrounding townships and communities, and is committed to developing the sport for people of all ages and levels. Its programs span Aussie Hoops, junior and senior leagues, girls' competitions, wheelchair basketball, and walking basketball.

The Darwin Basketball League (DBL) is the home of organised basketball in Darwin, run by Basketball NT out of Darwin Basketball Stadium. Located on Abala Road in Marrara, in the middle of the sports precinct, the venue has 5 courts, where a variety of programs are run. It traces its history to the Darwin Basketball Association (DBA), which was dissolved and absorbed into BNT in December 2025, and is now known as the Darwin Basketball League and the Marrara stadium transferred from DBA to BNT. Today the DBL delivers championship and social competitions across junior and senior grades, alongside wheelchair basketball and community programs for players of all ages and abilities.

The Palmerston and Regional Basketball Association (PaRBA) is a Basketball NT partner association serving Palmerston, rural and regional players of the Territory. Founded in 2014 to service the Palmerston and rural basketball community, it began delivering programs in May 2015 and has grown into a leading provider of basketball, social and school holiday programs. Running out of the Palmerston Recreation Centre, it focuses on inclusion and easily accessible programs for all. Its offerings span junior pathways such as Peewees, Mini Ballers and Rookie League, alongside Youth Drop In Sports, Holiday Hoops, and school based development clinics.
