Online Safety in Basketball
December 1, 2025

Basketball Australia and the eSafety Commissioner are partnering to deliver a practical session on keeping our basketball community safe online. This webinar forms part of Basketball Australia’s Safe Sport commitment and sports the recently released Australian Basketball 2040 Vision - ensuring every participant can experience our game in safe, respectful and connected environments, both on and off the court.
From group chats and social media to team management apps and livestream, basketball’s digital presence now reaches into every corner of the community. While these tools help us connect and grow our sport, they can also create challenges and risks. This webinar will help participants understand how online harm can occur and what steps we can take to prevent it.
Whether you’re an administrator, coach, team manager, or member protection officer, this session will help you play your part in maintaining a respectful, connected, and safe basketball community, both in person and online.
You will learn:
- The types of online harm impacting players, coaches, and the basketball community
- Steps to identify, prevent, and respond to incidents effectively
- Case studies and lessons learned from Australian sport
- New government updates on social media age restrictions and what they mean for clubs and families
- Practical tools and resources to support safe, positive online engagement
A safe online environment is essential to a safe sport. By strengthening our digital practices, we protect wellbeing, promote respect, and help ensure basketball remains a safe, inclusive, and connected community for all.
